Alfredo
Martinez
was born in Orizaba, Veracruz and moved to
Anaheim,
CA at the age of five. Alfredo has grown to have three
passions in life;
music, dance, and math. At age 12 he took up the trumpet, his
first
instrument, concentrating himself in jazz and classical music.
Throughout
his musical studies Alfredo has learned basics on congas,
piano, and guitar.
Days before his 15th birthday he was introduced to Salsa by
his high school
English teacher, Roberta Dieter, who started the Anaheim High
Salsa Club. In
this club coached by Roberta and with the help of Edgar Mendez
from Los
Rumberos, Alfredo got to perform at the 2000 West Coast Salsa
Congress.
After this great experience Alfredo gave up dancing only to
return to his
main passion in life, math. His goal was to acquire a degree
in Pure
Mathematics, something he accomplished in 2007 from CSUF.
Despite his intense love for math, Alfredo found it
impossible to
stay away from the salsa floor. He returned to dance two years
after leaving
it, at the age of 17. Alfredo returned to Edgar Mendez for
salsa coaching
and once able to he began attending JcFandango; where he took
the classes of
Salomon and Sandra Rivera. After becoming a regular at
JcFandango Alfredo
met Luis Aguilar, Dj Zonic, only to join his dance team, Rumba
Lovers.
Forced by school, Alfredo left the team after only a short
time, but he did
not stop dancing. Now he is a member of the Salsabor Y Cache
Performance
Group, SYC P.G.
